Adapted from the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru, LIVING is the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who, at the eleventh hour, makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful – into one he can say has been lived to the full.
Nominated in the 2023 Bafta awards as ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ category and ‘Best Actor’ at the Oscars, Bill Nighy is exceptional in his role as Mr Williams, a veteran civil servant who in 1953 is buried under paperwork at the office and lonely at home. His life has long felt empty and meaningless. Then a shattering medical diagnosis forces him to take stock – and to try and grasp fulfilment before it goes beyond reach. Escaping to the seaside, a stranger provides an epiphany: Williams should begin living in whatever time he has left, perhaps creating a lasting legacy in the process. A must see for fans of Bill Nighy who has received numerous awards, including two BAFTA Awards, a Golden Globe Award and nominations for an Academy Award and a Tony Award.
