Scannappeal’s First Business Breakfast

The business community has superbly supported Scannappeal for over 35 years. How could Scannappeal possibly say thank you to that community and deepen our long term relationship with them?

That challenge resulted in the birth of the Scannappeal Business Breakfast series…designed to cement that reciprocal relationship – providing the opportunity for business leaders to come together to network, to discuss and reflect on key topics, and all in the warm comfort of a great venue, breakfast, tea and coffee.

And so on a crisp sunny morning in late April over 50 senior business leaders and owners, joined by the Mayor of High Wycombe and Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce came together to explore the theme: “Mastering the Unpredictable – Leadership for Uncertain Times.”

Using our amazing guest speakers, Neil Thubron and Phil Richards MBE  shared their insight, amazing stories, and recommendations on this challenging theme.

Neil, in speaking about “Enduring, Embracing and Leading Through Uncertainty” talked through the 7P formula for achieving any goal, and how our focus should be on what is in our control, influencing what you can, ignoring things outside our control. He spoke about looking up, gauging perception and tracking to your North Star, making small changes early and avoiding the big course correction.

Phil, in speaking about Turning complexity into simplicity for business, and the life lessons charity partnership has taught me, set the standard for life’s lessons of simplicity: S-Simplify Communication, E- Encourage Thinking, T-Tell a story. He illustrated these principles with thought-provoking quotes:

– A great story is not just a story that is told well, but one that moves and changes the listener. (David Mamet)
– The best teachers are those who show us where to look, rather than tell us what to see. (Alexandra K. Trenfor)
– Any fool can make something complicated; it takes a genius to make it simple. (Woody Guthrie)

Phil also shared his own personal story of living with cancer and his relationship with Scannappeal. He spoke about the importance of mental and physical fitness being a game changer, and the challenge to all of us – If tomorrow offered you less than you have today, are you prepared to adapt?

We think our first breakfast worked – as one attendee gave on their feedback – “I’m not sure how you top that!”…
