Volunteering can be a fun and extremely rewarding but we do understand that it’s only natural that you might have some questions. We have answered some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for, please get in touch.

 

Why volunteer for Scannappeal?

People volunteer with Scannappeal for many different reasons. Some of our volunteers tell us they joined us to meet new people; others wanted to gain skills or experience. Many of our volunteers want to support their local community, or they have a personal connection to Scannappeal and want to give something back. Whatever your reason we would love for you to join us.

What skills and experience do I need?

For most of our volunteer roles you don’t need any specific skills or experience, just enthusiasm to get involved. If specific skills, experience or qualifications are needed (e.g. volunteer Videographer) we will provide details on the role profile.

How old do I need to be?

The minimum age for volunteering at Scannappeal is 16. All our role profiles will say what the minimum age is, so you’ll know before applying. There’s no maximum age limit for volunteering at Scannappeal.

How much time do I need to give?

Whether you can donate two hours a week or two hours a year there is a role for you! Some roles include regular volunteering, while others can be one-off for a specific period of time. We have a range of opportunities across the county during daytimes, evenings and weekends – there’s something for everyone!

What does Scannappeal need from me before I start?

We will have an informal chat about the role best suited to you and the time you have to give. You will be required to complete an application form and references will be taken up (if applicable to role).

Will I get expenses reimbursed?

We believe you should never be out of pocket if you volunteer with us, so we’ll pay for all of your reasonable out-of-pocket expenses with prior consent from the Volunteers Coordinator. The types of expenses you can claim for will be confirmed once you start the volunteering role.

I work for a local company – can employees volunteer as a small group?

Absolutely! We always welcome volunteers from the corporate sector either as an individual or a team.

Will volunteering affect my benefits?

Volunteering should not affect any state benefits you receive. It is important that you tell your Job Centre Plus adviser before you start volunteering.
