SUMMARY:Chearsley Hill House - Open Garden
DESCRIPTION:**TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY ON THE DOOR** \nChearsley Hill House was built by the Green family in 1890 who made their money from selling land for the then new railway line. Sir Henry Floyd the former Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire lived there until his death in a riding accident in 1968. When the village fete was held there in the 1950’s Vivian Leigh was known to have opened it. At the time she lived in nearby Notley Abbey with Sir Lawrence Olivier. \nThe garden of some 7 acres was redesigned by Arne Maynard\, a previous winner of Best in Show at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It is set out in a series of vertical and horizontal lines with informality introduced through water and wildflower meadows. The main structural elements were completed in 2005 with the rose garden\, designed by Acres Wild\, finished in 2016. The third and final phase of the woodland walk and lakeside planting was carried out in 2022. Designed by local garden designer Richard Rogers. Live music will be played throughout the afternoon\, courtesy of Lou’s Sextet Band. During the lunchtime period\, there will also be a BBQ available to purchase. \nTickets: £15 in advance and includes tea\, coffee and cake. Under 16’s £5\, under 5’s free. \nNotes:- Limited disabled access. Sorry\, no dogs allowed.

SUMMARY:One Day Farm - Open Garden
DESCRIPTION:Originally named Meadhams Farm\, a previous owner had\, as a child\, declared that “one day” she would like to own the property. When she eventually achieved this ambition\, the name was duly changed to One Day Farm! \nThere are over 80 roses in the garden making it very much a June/July garden although spring bulbs swiftly followed by primulas and siberica irises around the pond make for stunning early interest. Although manicured lawns are an important feature of the formal garden\, more areas are being left to grow wild to add to the already vibrant insect and fauna habitats. A new planting of multi stemmed flowering cherry was undertaken in 2023\, under planted with wood anemones. Musical entertainment throughout the afternoon will be provided by local musicians\, All Sorts. \nTickets: £12 in advance and includes tea\, coffee and cake. \nNotes:- Limited disabled access. SUMMARY:Private Film Screening - One Life
DESCRIPTION:ONE LIFE starring Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter tells the incredible and emotional true story of Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton\, a young London broker who visits Prague in December 1938. In a race against time\, Winton convinces the British Committee for Refugees in Czechoslovakia to rescue hundreds of predominantly Jewish children before Nazi occupation closes the borders. Fifty years later\, Nicky is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to bring to safety in England. It’s not until the BBC show “That’s Life!” re-introduces him to some of those he helped rescue that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he carried\, all the while skyrocketing from anonymity to a national hero. \nNicholas with his wife lived for much of their lives in Maidenhead\, where they brought up three children. A statue commemorating him sits on a bench at Maidenhead train station\, unveiled by MP for Maidenhead Theresa May in September 2010. \nDoors open at 2.00pm\, film starts at 2.45pm. Event ends approx 4.40pm. \nTickets are £20 each including tea and cake on arrival. \nNo under 18’s. \nFree on site parking. \n  \n
