New Year – New Challenge for Scannappeal

If your New Year resolution is to achieve a thrilling challenge then our Scannappeal Skydive could be just what you’re looking for! It takes place on Sunday 9 July at Brackley Airfield (15 miles North of Oxford) where you will complete training and complete a exhilarating 10,000 feet freefall tandem parachute jump with a qualified instructor.

Our information pack has everything you need including your reservation and sponsorship forms and we’ve made everything as easy as possible for you to take part.

All we ask is that you to raise £395 in sponsorship money in order for you to jump for free and in turn we will receive an average donation of £140. In addition to this, every extra pound that you raise over the minimum comes straight to the charity, so please try to raise as much as you possibly can!

This challenge event is possible thanks to professional events organisers Skyline who receive a flat rate per jumper for organising the jumps for us. Skyline specialise in organising fundraising events for charities such as ourselves so if you have any questions please ring them directly as they are in the best position to answer your questions – you can contact them on 020 7424 5522.

Here are some comments from a couple of our 2016 ‘jumpers’

Christ Croft says he & his daughter Louisa wanted to do the skydive to raise money for Scannappeal because, “my wife Alison had breast cancer 5 years ago and she benefited from the latest technology and only needed one operation rather than two.  We wanted to show our appreciation by raising some money to help many other people.  We are very grateful to have this local charity which is in the forefront of providing equipment used within the NHS. The skydive was a fantastic experience and I am so glad Scannappeal gave us the opportunity for the thrill of a lifetime!”

Sam Evans and Sarah Hicks from Audiology at Amersham Hospital completed their skydives on Saturday 16th July 2016, in glorious weather conditions. Sam told us their jump took place from 13,000 feet and from above two layers of clouds. He said, “It was truly a wonderful experience, which will never be forgotten.”

Scannappeal fundraising officer Hilary Colgan, “I conquered my fear of heights in one fell swoop, a fantastic instructor and an amazing experience which I will always remember and yes I WOULD do it again!!!”

We sincerely hope that you will decide to give it a go and help us raise vital funds in order to continue our work. Don’t forget, all you have to do is raise the minimum amount of sponsorship and you will get to jump for free!

If you would like to register your interest and receive a free information pack call the Scannappeal office on 01494 734161 or email Hilary.colgan@buckshealthcare.nhs.com  Please note that the closing date for registrations is 31/03/2017, places are limited so get in quick if you’d like to join us for a truly amazing experience,

Parveens Annual Cancer Event’s Sponsored Walk & Picnic

P.A.C.E 1P.A.C.E 3

Diagnosed with cancer in 2001, Parveen Sheikh founded P.A.C.E to raise funds for cancer patients.  She wanted her efforts to be spread from where she called home to where she knew there was a great need for medical advancement.  She chose two charities to support, Scannappeal and Imran Khan Hospital in Pakistan.  Since 2002 over 80,000 has been raised to help cancer patients.

Sadly in early 2009 Parveen’s battle with cancer came to an end. However, her hard work still resonates through P.A.C.E event and its supporters.

This year’s event took place on Saturday 3 September and so far a further £1000 has been received with many more donations pledged.

Getting Quizzical for Cancer Fighting Fund

Wycombe Independent Fundraisers held a quiz for Scannappeal recently raising over £600.  A team of six helpers, led by Mary Walter and Gloria Allen, made a fabulous selection of dishes for the ‘quizzers’ who packed Marlow Football Club.  Quizmaster Bill Reid was in charge of the microphone and questions, with the winning team keeping it in the family as it included Gloria’s two sons!

The money will go towards our Cancer Fighting Fund for the urology department at Wycombe Hospital.  This £130,000 Appeal is to buy a state of the art 3D theatre stack system to treat patients with prostate, kidney and bladder cancers.  Jon Greenland, Deputy Chairman of Scannappeal and a consultant urologist, talked at the start of the evening about the difference these funds will make.  Gloria said ‘I would like to thank our marvelous team of helpers and we were so pleased to raise a good sum of money whilst giving people a fun evening out.’

Swinging Success for Scannappeal

It may have been gloomy outside but inside our summer marquee there was a real party atmosphere at this year’s Summertime Swing. Our 250 guests enjoyed their own delicious picnics before listening and dancing to the sound of the Bucks, Berks & Oxon Big Band! We raised a fantastic £2400 for The Sound Appeal, raising vital money for advanced diagnostic equipment to treat people with hearing problems. Thank you all those who attended!

Bourne End restaurant & community groups support Scannappeal

On Monday 25 April, Kong’s Chinese restaurant in Bourne End held it’s 9th annual complimentary lunch for seniors, carers and volunteers.  Over 70 local representatives from Bourne End groups enjoyed the hospitality and oriental cuisine including the Day Centre, Alfred Court, Orchard House, the Community Centre, local good cause organisations  and the Wye Valley Volunteers. This year’s retiring collection raised £315 for Scannappeal.

Getting down and dirty for Scannappeal!

Congratulations to Scannappeal supporter Chris Brown, who has just completed the second of his four Tough Mudder challenges, this year!

In 2010 Chris’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, only two years into their married life, turning their lives upside down.

Through the help and support of Scannappeal, nurses and treatment received, the all clear was given and then their family blossomed with the arrival of twins, Charlie and Matilda in early 2014. To show their appreciation Chris has challenged himself to these four physically demanding events to raise money for Scannappeal’s Digital & 3D Breast Appeal.

After the first of these, Chris says “It was tough but knew that was going to be the case before setting off… however loved every minute of getting wet, muddy, dunked in ice and electrocuted..!”

Chris has so far has raised a marvellous £1350 online but is aiming to reach £1500 in total, click HERE to donate to show your support.

Special Summer Soiree

Some of Scannappeal’s longstanding supporters were entertained at Lilies, near Weedon, at a private event hosted by George and Kirsty Anson last week.  Guests were able to look around the house and gardens and heard a talk about its history.  The Countess of Buckinghamshire, who is a Patron of Scannappeal, explained the difference that regular givers had made to the charity’s work and clinicians from the cardiology, gastroenterology and speech therapy departments demonstrated some of the equipment that Scannappeal has funded in recent years.  Entertainment was provided by Allsorts clarinet quartet and Michael Moore Life and Pensions provided the refreshments.  The event raised nearly £2,000.
